Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power

made special mention of Andhra Pradesh for establishing the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) in Visakhapatnam.

BEE said it is a landmark initiative spearheaded by Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) and described the CoEET as “a significant milestone in the State’s efforts to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and clean technology innovation.”

The initiative, it noted, comes at an opportune time ahead of the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam, where global experts will share insights on building world-class power infrastructure, optimizing energy costs, and accelerating renewable integration.

During an interaction with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, a senior official of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL briefed on the latest EE initiatives of both BEE and EESL that are poised to make a major impact in combating climate change.

While thanking the BEE, EESL and Ministry of Power for their technical and financial support, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand said the State Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is determined to deliver 24x7 power supply of global standards to attract substantial investments into Andhra Pradesh.

He disclosed that under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, the Government aims to mobilize ₹10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029.

“The Centre of Excellence at Vizag will be a game-changer in promoting applied research, skill development, and clean energy entrepreneurship,” he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh has long been a frontrunner in implementing key EE programs in partnership with the Union Government and EESL.

Reaffirming its commitment to a sustainable and green future, the State, through the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), has signed an agreement with NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) to establish a state-of-the-art Green Hydrogen Hub near Visakhapatnam.

The project, with a proposed investment of approximately ₹1.85 lakh crore, will contribute significantly to achieving India’s 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity target by 2030, the Chief Secretary added. The project will also support the national goal of installing 260 GW of renewable capacity, making Andhra Pradesh a key contributor to India’s clean energy transition.

As part of its national strategy, the BEE, in coordination with SDAs, has developed a comprehensive roadmap for achieving energy efficiency targets—a crucial pillar in addressing climate change.

Commending Andhra Pradesh’s initiative, Milind Deore, Secretary, BEE, said: “The establishment of the CoEET)l in Visakhapatnam is a commendable initiative that aligns perfectly with India’s national energy efficiency and clean energy transition goals."

Deore also appreciated APEPDCL CMD Prudvitej for leading more than 20 applied research and pilot projects and for training over 1,000 professionals and utility engineers in energy efficiency.
